Reserve the XR Studio

Extended Reality Studio

The Cline Library’s Extended Reality Studio allows the NAU community to design, build, and test educational experiences using virtual and augmented reality. This studio is available to NAU and CCC faculty, NAU College of Education students, and Flagstaff-area K-12 educators. To learn more about extended reality, visit our training guide.

How can I access the Studio? Accordion Closed

The Extended Reality Studio is located in room 141 (within the VR Studio) on the first floor of the Cline Library, adjacent to the Student Technology Center. NAU and CCC faculty, NAU College of Education students, and Flagstaff-area K-12 educators may reserve the studio for up to two hours per day. Scheduling accommodations can also be made for specific projects.

How do I use the Studio? Accordion Closed

Before you Begin
  1. Familiarize yourself with the features and capabilities of the XR Creation Studio.
  2. This studio has a variety of professional-grade hardware and software to support the creation of custom virtual and augmented reality educational experiences.
  3. If you need assistance learning to use the software in this studio you may schedule a consultation with library staff by visiting: nau.edu/library/request-makerlab-help.
  4. If you notice any issues with the hardware in this room, please alert library staff.
  5. Log in to the XR creation workstation using the username and password provided on your key.

During your Experience
  1. Make use of any of our XR creation platforms or VR/AR testing hardware. Information on how to use this equipment is available by visiting libraryguides.nau.edu/studios. 
  2. When in virtual reality, remember to always remain aware of your surroundings. Be careful to avoid hitting walls, furniture, or other users with your hands and arms.
  3. Please maintain an acceptable volume, this space is NOT soundproof.

In the event you feel ill or disoriented REMOVE YOUR HEADSET!


Before You Leave
  1. Be sure to save any experiences you created to your account or a portable USB.
  2. Properly close all Oculus apps and log off of the XR creation workstation.
  3. Wipe down the XR equipment and headsets with the sanitary wipes provided.
  4. Place the Oculus headset on the hook provided and tidy up the XR workstation.
  5. Be sure to collect all of your personal belongings, supplies, and any trash.
  6. Return the Oculus controllers and XR Studio key to the Ask Us! Desk.

XR Classroom Kits

About the Kits Accordion Closed

The Cline Library – in partnership with the Arizona State Library and Institute of Museum and Library Services – now offers 11 extended reality classroom kits to support virtual and augmented reality learning experiences at NAU and Flagstaff-area K-12 schools.

These kits are available to NAU and CCC faculty, students from the NAU College of Education, and Flagstaff-area K-12 educators for use in their classes. Explore our selection of kits below, or email our Experiential Learning Librarian for more information.

First time using our XR classroom kits? If you are an NAU/CCC faculty member or NAU College of Education student, visit our our online scheduler to request use of an XR classroom kit for your class. If you are a Flagstaff-area K-12 educator, you will first need to have your school principal complete our K-12 Educator Use Agreement to set up your school account.

ClassVR Kits Accordion Closed

The ClassVR Kit is a fully classroom-ready set of eight (8) XR headsets that deliver a fully immersive VR and AR experience for your students while being wirelessly managed and controlled using the ClassVR Teacher Portal. ClassVR has been designed for students of all ages and is ideal for teachers who are new to extended reality in education or who don’t have the time to create their own XR lesson plans. Merge XR Kits Accordion Closed

The Merge XR Kit is a set of ten (10) XR headsets, mobile devices, and interactive cubes that transport your students into immersive lessons and experiences. Your students can go on virtual field trips, see life from new perspectives, and experience learning firsthand. The Merge XR Kit is perfect for students of all ages and is ideal for teachers who are interested in developing their own XR classroom experiences. Visit our Merge XR training guide.

Oculus Quest Kit Accordion Closed

The Oculus Quest Kit is an advanced virtual reality kit that offers a wide array of fully immersive and interactive environments, games, and learning experiences for adults and young adults. The Oculus Quest Kit includes six (6) Oculus Quest VR headsets with hand controllers and is ideal for interactive learning activities, exploration of virtual environments, social experiences, and creative expression. Group XR Kits Accordion Closed

The Group XR Kit is a set of ten (10) XR compatible iPads and interactive cubes that transport your students into immersive lessons and experiences. In small groups your students can go on virtual field trips, see life from new perspectives, and experience learning firsthand.
