Indigenous Peoples Living-Learning Community

Explore traditional and contemporary aspects of Indigenous intellectual, social, and cultural life

The Indigenous Peoples* Living-Learning Community (IPLLC) was established in fall 2022 and is currently located in Gabaldon CLC and Ernest Calderón CLC.

Indigenous Peoples Living-Learning Community

Indigenous and other interested students can live together while exploring and expressing traditional and contemporary aspects of Indigenous intellectual, social, and cultural life. The Indigenous Peoples Living-Learning Community is open to all academic levels and includes the following:

  • social connections with others who identify as and/or are interested in learning more about Indigenous Peoples
  • network of Indigenous faculty, Tribal College Faculty Exchange participants, staff, alumni, and peer support providing personal and professional development and mentorship
  • dynamic programming in the living environment such as:
    • cultural dinners
    • guest speakers on history, culture, politics, and current experiences of Indigenous populations
    • visual and performing arts, music, and dances
    • field trips
    • leadership development
    • academic support and study groups
    • career path and graduate school exploration/preparation
  • 3–4 signature events per academic year planned with IPLLC member input
  • community gathering room in the wing

Collaborative effort

The following campus partners collaborated to build and support this holistic community and continue to remain key collaborators:

  • Office of Indigenous Student Success (OISS)
  • Office of Native American & Indigenous Advancement (ONAIA)
  • Center for Native American & Indigenous Futures (CNAIF)
  • Campus Living (CL)

Apply now!

  • Log into the housing portal and select the Academic Year 2025–2026 housing application.
  • A prompt about the Indigenous Peoples Living-Learning Community will appear on the “Tell us your housing preferences” page. Select yes and respond to the two questions regarding your interest.
  • The review process for the 2025–26 academic year will happen at the end of each month for applications submitted by the 15th of that same month (e.g., MGH or focused-housing applications submitted by November 15 will be reviewed by the end of that month. Students will receive communication by the end of that month, too.) Requests will be considered in the order they are received.
  • You will receive a confirmation email once accepted into the community, including additional details about roommates and room selection in the community.
  • Note: room assignments in the Indigenous Peoples Living-Learning Community will occur on a rolling basis based on application date and space availability.
  • IPLLC community members are responsible for housing charges (and meal plan costs if applicable).

*Indigenous Peoples include Native Americans, American Indians, Alaska Natives, Native Hawaiians, Native Pacific Islanders, and other global Indigenous relatives. Indigenous Peoples also identify with specific Nations, Tribes, Bands, Clans, and Communities.
