Northern Arizona University’s electronic mail (or “email”) service is a tool intended to support the University’s official educational, administrative, and business activities while providing one official means of communication between the University and its employees and students. All use of University email must further the University’s mission while complying with applicable law and policy. All users are advised that email transmitted or stored by the University may be accessed, reviewed, or provided to third parties in accordance with applicable law, policy, or legal order. While the University endeavors to provide a secure and dependable email service, users must exercise caution when communicating confidential or sensitive information and should be aware that with limited exceptions, the content of University email accounts is subject to disclosure under Arizona’s public records laws.

NAU’s email service is a publicly-owned resource
NAU email accounts are a privilege not a right
Incidental personal use of NAU email accounts is allowed, as long as it does not violate policy or impede the University’s mission
Do not use an NAU email account to conduct commercial or for-profit personal business
Do not use a personal email account to conduct official NAU business
Do not use an NAU email account to attempt to influence the vote in any election
NAU may revoke NAU email privileges from those who violate policy
NAU email accounts carry no expectation of personal privacy
The contents of NAU email accounts are subject to disclosure under Arizona’s public records laws
