Northern Arizona University’s electronic mail (or “email”) service is a tool intended to support its educational and administrative activities. It also serves as an official means of communication between the University and its employees and students. All use of University email must further the University’s mission while complying with applicable law and policy. Incidental personal use of NAU email accounts by employees is permitted with the understanding that such occasional use may not adversely impact work responsibilities or the system’s performance. All users are advised that email transmitted or stored by the University may be accessed, reviewed, or provided to third parties in accordance with applicable law, policy, or legal order. While the University endeavors to provide a private and dependable email service, users should exercise caution when communicating confidential or sensitive information and should be aware that with limited exceptions, the University’s email records are subject to disclosure under Arizona’s public records laws.
