STAR: Eligibility

Who can participate in the NAU STAR program?

The program is open to first-time freshmen who are committed to earning their bachelor’s degree from Northern Arizona University. To be eligible for the STAR program, you must meet the following criteria:

  • Be an Arizona resident
  • Be attending NAU in the upcoming fall semester
  • Be a first-generation college student
  • Be a Pell-eligible student
  • Complete the current year FAFSA as well as the past year FAFSA
    • The reason is because funding for a summer program must be based on a student’s FAFSA from the previous year

How much does it cost?

Students and their families do not pay anything to attend STAR. The costs are paid for by the student’s financial aid and includes:

  • Housing
  • Meal plan
  • Tuition and fees
  • Books

The costs of the program will be covered through financial aid, and students can only attend if they have completed the prior year FAFSA by early spring. Example: if a student is coming to NAU for the 2023-2024 academic year, then they and their parents will have to complete the 2022-2023 FAFSA
