All NAU employees should know:
NAU's email service is a public resource owned by the State of Arizona
NAU email accounts are a privilege not a right
Incidental personal use of NAU email accounts is allowed, provided that it does not violate policy or impede the University's mission
Employees should not use their NAU email address or account to establish or manage third-party service provider personal log-in credentials or accounts
Employees may not use their NAU email account to conduct personal for-profit business or commercial activity
Employees may not use their NAU email account to attempt to influence the outcome of any election or to advocate in support or opposition of any pending or proposed legislation
Using a personal email account to conduct official NAU business is prohibited
NAU may revoke NAU email privileges from those who violate applicable policy
NAU email accounts carry no expectation of personal privacy and their security or confidentiality cannot be guaranteed
The contents of NAU email accounts are generally subject to disclosure under Arizona's public records laws
Personal losses or liabilities stemming from phishing attacks, scams, or hoaxes involving NAU email accounts are the employee's responsibility

Electronic Mail
Northern Arizona University’s electronic mail (or “email”) service is a tool intended to support the University’s official educational, administrative, and business activities while providing an official means of communication between the University and its employees and students. Except for minor incidental personal activity, use of the University’s email systems must further the University’s mission while complying with applicable law and policy. All users are advised that email transmitted or stored by the University may be accessed, reviewed, or disclosed to appropriate third parties in accordance with applicable law, policy, or legal order. While the University endeavors to provide a secure and dependable email service, users must exercise caution when communicating confidential or sensitive information and should be aware that with some exceptions, the content of University email accounts is generally subject to disclosure under Arizona’s public records laws.
