Degree Tracking
Track Your Progress Towards Graduation
The Office of Graduate & Professional Studies (OGPS) has begun a multi-year project to replace all Programs of Study with a Graduate Academic Advisement Report (Graduate AAR). This will affect students in Master’s, Doctoral, and Graduate Certificate programs.
- As of Spring 2025, nearly half of NAU’s graduate programs have transitioned over to the Graduate AAR (see list of first-wave programs).
- 11 graduate programs are in the transitionary stage for Spring and Summer 2025, which requires use of the Graduate AAR in conjunction with the Program of Study (see list of second-wave programs).
- Graduate AARs remain in development for all remaining programs; therefore, Programs of Study should continue to be used for students in these remaining programs (see list of third-wave programs).

The Exception Processor training should only be completed by faculty and staff who will be serving as Exception Processors.
You must complete the Exception Requestor training prior to attending the Exception Processor training.
The Exception Processor training will be held over a 2-hour virtual Teams meeting. Spring 2025 date to be determined.
You must be present for the entire length of the training to receive the Exception Processor e-Pass.
Using the Program of Study
Download a Program of Study for your catalog year and work with your advisor to plan your path towards graduation. If your program has a *USE GRADUATE AAR* note in the title, this indicates that it is a first-wave program. Therefore, your Graduate AAR should be used for degree tracking (see directions for using the Graduate AAR above).

What is My Catalog Year? Accordion Open
The NAU Academic Catalog is the official source and repository for all curriculum, and is published for each academic year.
- Programs of Study are created to reflect the curriculum included in the Academic Catalog for each corresponding academic year.
- Graduate students are responsible for learning their program’s curriculum requirements for the year in which they begin their graduate studies, and meeting those requirements for graduation.
For example, students admitted in Fall 2024, Winter 2024, Spring 2025, and Summer 2025 fall under the 2024-25 catalog and must utilize the 2024-25 Program of Study.
Can I Move My Catalog Year Forward? Accordion Closed
If desired, students may move their catalog year to a subsequent year after admission.
For example, students in the 2024-25 catalog may choose to switch to the 2025-26 Program of Study, or any Program of Study thereafter.
Can I Move My Catalog Year Backwards? Accordion Closed
It is not permitted for students to move their catalog year to a prior year before admission.
For example, students in the 2024-25 catalog may not utilize the 2023-24 Program of Study, or any Program of Study prior.
