Undergraduate Certificates
Northern Arizona University’s Communication Sciences and Disorders department offers two undergraduate certificates available online or in-person.
Speech-Language Pathology Assistant Certificate
If you are interested in becoming a Speech-Language Pathologist Assistant (SLPA) and working as support personnel to a speech-language pathologist, this program may be right for you. Many prefer the flexibility of our online courses given their busy lifestyles.
The SLPA certificate meets the minimum speech-language pathology technical coursework requirements required for licensure in Arizona, as recommended by ASHA. A supervised clinical interaction experience is also required for licensure, which can be fulfilled through elective coursework.
To apply to the SLPA certificate, please use the NAU First year or Transfer applications. Do not complete the non-degree application.

Speech-Language Pathology Graduate School Preparation Certificate
The Speech-Language Pathology Graduate School Preparation (SLPGSP) undergraduate certificate is designed for students who have completed, or are in the process of completing, a bachelor’s degree in a non-CSD major and are seeking a pathway to fulfill the prerequisite courses required for admission to a graduate degree program and enter the workforce as a speech-language pathologist. The SLPGSP certificate is not eligible for financial aid unless the student is enrolled in another degree program (another major at NAU).
To apply to the Grad Prep certificate, please use the NAU First year or Transfer applications. Do not complete the non-degree application.
