The NAU Speech-Language-Hearing Clinic offers a variety of screenings, evaluations and therapy services, including but not limited to free screenings for children under the age of five, dyslexia evaluations and therapy, speech-language evaluations and therapy, voice evaluation and treatment, feeding therapy, cognitive communication therapy, audiological evaluation and hearing aid dispensing.
All services at the Speech-Language-Hearing Clinic are available in English and Spanish.

Speech-language hearing screenings for children birth to five
Speech sound disorders:
- Phonological delay/disorder: Patterns of sound errors, such as substitutions or deletions
- Articulation errors: Errors in individual speech sounds
- Motor speech disorders
- Childhood Apraxia of Speech: Difficulty with planning and coordinating speech movements)
- Dysarthria: Weakness or difficulty in controlling speech muscles, affecting clarity)
- Voice disorders: Issues affecting pitch, volume, and quality of voice
- Aural rehabilitation for deaf and hard of hearing children including cochlear implant therapy
Fluency disorders:
- Stuttering: Interruptions in the flow of speech
- Cluttering: Rapid or disordered speech that can affect clarity and fluency
Language disorders:
- Developmental Language Disorder
- Dyslexia: Reading and writing difficulties
- Dysgraphia: Writing difficulties related to language and motor skills
Feeding and swallowing:
- Feeding and swallowing disorders
Cognitive communication:
- Traumatic brain injury

- Apraxia of Speech: Motor-based speech disorder affecting planning and coordination of speech
- Dysarthria: Motor-based speech disorder affecting muscle control needed for speech production
- Persistent phonological and articulation disorders
Language disorders:
- Aphasia: Language disorder affecting speech and comprehension, typically following brain injury or stroke
- Persistent Developmental Language Disorder
Voice and communication disorders:
- Physical and functional voice pathologies/disorders
- Gender-affirming voice and communication services
- Lee Silverman Voice Treatment (LSVT) for Parkinson’s Disease
Fluency disorders:
- Stuttering and cluttering: Disruptions in the flow of speech

- Cognitive function assessment (memory, attention, problem solving)
- Traumatic brain injury

- Choir for individuals with neurological impairments
- Pronunciation of English for second language learners

- Hearing tests and assessments: Comprehensive evaluations to diagnose hearing loss
- Hearing aid fittings and adjustments: Recommending, programming, and maintaining hearing aids
- Counseling and aural rehabilitation: Education and training for individuals with hearing loss
- Tinnitus management: Therapy and strategies to reduce ringing or buzzing in the ears
- Assistive Listening Devices (ALDs): Recommendations for devices that improve communication
- Custom ear protection: Earplugs for musicians, swimmers, industrial workers, and more
- Hearing conservation programs: Workplace and community programs to prevent hearing loss
Fees
Speech and language
Speech and language services are on a fee-for-service basis. Clients can be provided with a form to send to their private health insurance for possible reimbursement (it is up to each client to seek reimbursement). Scholarships are available.
Discounted fees are available for NAU students, staff, and faculty.
Hearing
Hearing services are contracted with Blue Cross Blue Shield and Medicare. All other insurances are billed as a courtesy.
