W.E.B. Du Bois Emerging Scholars Fellowship Award
The W.E.B. Du Bois Emerging Scholars Fellowship provides $5,000 to an NAU undergraduate student who is conducting research, creative scholarship or an innovative project under the guidance of a faculty mentor. This award will be paid out in two installments – $2,500 at the beginning of the fall and spring semester of the award.
The successful applicant must be an NAU undergraduate student enrolled full-time, have completed at least 15 credits at NAU, and be in good academic standing. Students from historically underrepresented backgrounds, especially those who identify as Black or African American, are strongly encouraged to apply.

Applications are due Monday, July 31. To complete the application for the $5,000 fellowship award, you will need to provide basic details about yourself as well as write a short (500 word maximum) essay that includes:
- a brief description and timeline of the research, scholarly, or creative project to be carried out
- plans for dissemination (i.e., how you will share the results)
- summary of how your personal and educational background have prepared you for this project
- vision of how this project fits into your future academic and career goals
Make sure to address all of the criteria listed. Your answers should be written for a general audience. Avoid highly technical language and jargon as much as possible. Answers should be text only, well-written, well-organized and free of spelling and grammatical errors.
