Ann Huffman, Ph.D., of the Department of Psychological Sciences, began her term as Chair of the Board of Convention Affairs of the American Psychological Association (APA) on January 1, 2020. Dr. Huffman has been a member of the Board since 2017 and was elected Chair in 2019. The Board is responsible for planning and executing the organization’s annual convention, which last year welcomed over 10,000 attendees from more than fifty countries. At the 2019 convention, the Board initiated “Psych-Sciences in 3” competition. Using Northern Arizona University’s 3MRP (Three-Minute Research Presentation) competition as a model, graduate students and early career psychologists competed in presenting their research in three minutes or less. APA is the largest scientific and professional organization representing psychology in the U.S., and also the world’s largest organization of psychologists with more than 134,000 members around the globe. The 2020 APA convention will take place in Washington DC August 6th to 9th.
