The Introduction to Statistics in Psychology (PSY 230) course, which provides a strong foundation in basic statistics to those majoring in psychology, has been delivered as a 4-unit class in which a 1-unit lab was embedded. Starting in fall 2021, the PSY 230 course will be delivered as a 3-unit course without the separate lab component. This change will allow more efficient delivery of core material to a larger number of students.
The lab, which focuses on the application of content from the PSY 230 course, and adds skills related to SPSS, remains an important course for some and is now offered as the 1-unit Statistics Lab (PSY 231). Those students who are enrolled in the B.S. in Psychological Sciences degree program under the 2021–2022 catalog year are required to take the new PSY 231 course. Those students who are enrolled in the B.S. in Psychological Sciences degree program under different catalog years, and who have not completed the 4-unit PSY 230 course, are encouraged to complete the PSY 231 course. The statistics lab can be completed concurrently with PSY 230.
