With check-in day now behind them, junior campers began their first official day of classes with a boat-load of enthusiasm. From sectionals to full-blown rehearsals, everyone was excited to begin working on their music. And work hard, they did. One camper, Asher L., said that he was working on learning The Entertainer on piano. “I know the first part, but I need to practice the other section,” he said on his way to class. The campers are quite passionate about their instruments!
After classes, campers made their way to the dorms to prepare for the night’s activity: the infamous CSMC Summer Games! Gathered with their trusty team leads, they donned face paint and bandanas to show their spirit. Soon the games began, initiating a strong competitive attitude among campers and counselors alike. Campers played dodgeball, ring toss, and even threw cheetos at people’s shaving cream-covered faces in an attempt to earn the most points. Ultimately, Anahi’s Scorpions were crowned the champions. Despite not winning the games, campers from other teams were still happy to have participated. One camper, Adlemi D., said that they “won in spirit.”
Day three of camp brought even more excitement for the campers. After another productive day filled with practice sessions and rehearsals, kids filed into NAU’s new Kitt Recital Hall to watch the Counselor and Faculty Showcase. The performance featured a variety of acts, from a string quartet to a duet involving two music boxes. The showcase concluded with a Star Wars medley on piano, complete with R2D2 and a full-blown lightsaber battle. It’s safe to say that the campers were really on the edge of their seats.
