Maricopa and NAU are proud of creating the first Concurrent Enrollment Program (CEP) in Dental Hygiene in the state of Arizona. NAU is a leader in Dental Hygiene bachelor degree completion and is the only public university in Arizona that offers a bachelor’s degree completion program.
The Maricopa/NAU CEP allows you to complete your Associate of Applied Science (AAS) in Dental Hygiene and your Bachelor of Science in Dental Hygiene (BSDH) concurrently. When you complete your AAS degree you will also complete your BSDH degree.
You can transfer up to 90 credits from the community college to NAU making it an affordable pathway to a bachelor’s degree. You’ll pay the NAU tuition rates for only 30 credits. Once admitted to the program, you’ll gain in-depth knowledge from faculty who are hygienists and dentists with advanced education in their specialty areas.

To be considered for participation in the Maricopa/NAU CEP, the following is required:
-Admittance into the Maricopa Dental Hygiene program.
-Completion of all prerequisite requirements.
-You may have no more than 7 credits in progress (listed on your unofficial transcripts) when you submit your CEP application. -Completed applications will be prioritized.
-Minimum GPA of 3.5 in basic science courses and 3.25 or better in General Education (GE) courses.
-You must earn a C or better in the required courses within the program.

CRE 101 or test exemption
BIO 156 or BIO 181 or 1 year high school biology
CHM 130/130LL or higher OR 1 year high school chemistry
HCC/RES 109 or CPR certification
Following BIO courses must have 3.50 GPA or higher
BIO 201 – Human Anatomy and Physiology I
BIO 202 – Human Anatomy and Physiology II
BIO 205 – Microbiology
Following GE courses must have a 3.25 GPA or higher
ENG 101/102 – First Year Composition
COM 225 MAT 140 or higher
PSY 101
SOC 101
Humanities – MHL 155 recommended
Humanities – PHL 213 recommended
How to Apply to the MCCCD/NAU Concurrent Enrollment Program Accordion Closed
If you are interested in applying to the CEP program, please let your MCCCD Advisor know. Once your MCCCD advisor has determined if you are eligible, you will then apply to NAU. Once you are accepted to NAU, please contact Mrs. Smolinski & Ms. Cooney to get enrolled in the correct courses.
To be admitted to the Dental Hygiene Degree Concurrent Enrollment Program, you must:
-Successfully submitted application to OR currently enrolled in an MCCCD dental hygiene program.
-Apply and be admitted to Northern Arizona University.
-Matriculate into the Concurrent Enrollment Program.
