NAU Symphony Orchestra

“Family Weekend”

The NAU Symphony Orchestra kicks of the season with familiar classics and family favorites.
The concert will include Rossini’s La gazza ladra Overture, Wagner’s Flying Dutchman Overture, Theofanidis’ Rainbow Body, and Mahler’s Adagietto from Symphony No. 5. Elle Lee and Addison Mauro, graduate conducting students, will make inaugural appearances with the orchestra.

"Fall Masterworks"

Celebrating student achievement with winners of the 2019 NAU Concerto Competition, soloists TBD. The Orchestra will also perform Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov’s Russian Easter Overture and Gustav Mahler’s Totenfeier from Symphony No. 2.

NAU Symphony Orchestra and Guest Artists

“Bernstein Centennial”

Sunday, April 14, 2019, 3:00 p.m.

Celebrating Leonard Bernstein’s 100th Anniversary, the Symphony will perform a collection of American masterpieces. The concert begins with Samuel Barber’s Overture to the School for Scandal and Aaron Copland’s Lincoln Portrait, narrated by Henry Fogel, former president of the Chicago Symphony and the League of American Orchestras. Michael Brown, pianist, will join the orchestra on the second half, in a performance of Leonard Bernstein’s Symphony No. 2—from the Age of Anxiety. The concert is sponsored in part by a generous donation from Edward Bowell and Anne-Marie Malotki.

NAU Chamber Orchestra and Faculty Soloists

“New Beginnings”

Michael and Karen Kitt Recital Hall

The NAU Chamber Orchestra makes a special appearance in the newly-constructed Michael and Karen Kitt Recital Hall. NAU Music Faculty, Emily Hoppe, Louise Scott, and Rita Borden, will join the orchestra in a performance of Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto No. 5, and Cris Inguanti, will perform Copland’s Clarinet Concerto. The concert is sponsored in part by a generous donation from Michael and Karen Kitt.
