The Center for Science Teaching and Learning is a teaching, research, evaluation, and materials resource and service-provider for:

• science faculty and students across the Northern Arizona University campus
• K-20 science teachers statewide
• informal educators statewide – such as museum and arboretum staff, park services, etc.

Here, you’ll find the NAUTeach program, a highly field-based certification program for training future science and mathematics teachers in Arizona. With NAUTeach you can gain teaching experience your first undergraduate semester. 

The CSTL provides professional development to educators and educational organizations to improve Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) education. Our customized professional development services use research based strategies to develop science content understanding, integrate real world engineering practices, and implement Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS).

The CSTL offers program evaluation and assessment for teacher preparation, teacher professional development and higher education STEM programs. Services include program planning, developing evaluation plans and logic models, data collection, analysis and reporting.

You can:

• explore and apply for undergraduate,graduate, and post-baccalaureate teacher-certification programs that are delivered statewide 
• take professional development workshops 
• receive assistance with grant writing—we’re one of the top three grant producers at the university
• get internal or external evaluation services for grant-funded projects
• receive help determining goals and developing logic models for grant-funded projects
