Global Artist in Residence Program
Launched during the 2012-2013 school year, the Global Artist in Residence program reflects a commitment on the part of the School of Music to support the Global Learning Initiative at Northern Arizona University.
The Global Artist in Residence (Artist) will works directly with students in the MUS 260 Introduction to World Music course, where they investigate musical and cultural practices of the Artist’s native culture. The residency will culminate with the featured artist in his/her own program on the Horizons Music Series, possibly with NAU music students also performing. The Artist also will provide a workshop in his/her musical tradition for the Flagstaff community and give a lecture/demonstration at a local school. This program will help students develop the tools to navigate
an increasingly global world not by some distant encounter with other
cultures but through direct interaction with living masters of global
Likewise, the Artist also will engage students in other departments across campus,
as determined by the cultural origins, disciplinary interests, and
expertise of the Global Artist in Residence.
