Transfer and international students
While all students must follow the regular School of Music undergraduate admission procedure, the following are some additional resources to help transfer students and international students through the process.
Transfer student guide
To ensure that you’re on track when transferring to Northern Arizona University, we encourage you to complete the following academic and performance courses at your Arizona community college. NAU students typically complete these courses by the end of their sophomore year.
Music courses for all students Accordion Closed
Four semesters of the following:
- Music Theory
- Ear Training
- Class Piano
- Conducted Large Performing Ensemble
- Private Lessons
Two Semesters of Music History
Grade requirement: C or better in each course
Liberal studies courses for all students Accordion Closed
The following courses have the grade requirement of C or better
- A Math course equivalent to MAT 114
- A Lab Science course that equals 4 credits
- Three additional liberal studies courses (Science and Applied Science, Aesthetic and Humanistic Inquiry, Cultural Understanding, Social and Political Worlds)
The following courses have varying grade requirements depending on your intended major:
- English 101 and 102
- For BMUS and BA – C or better in each course
- For BMED – An average grade of B or better in the two courses
Additional music courses for music education majors (BMED) Accordion Closed
Instrumental majors
- Instrument Techniques Classes (NAU requirement is 8 classes)
- 2 brass, 2 woodwind, 2 strings, 2 percussion
Choral Majors
- Diction Classes (NAU requirement is 2 courses)
- English, Italian, German, French
Grade requirement: C or better in each course
