Have you heard of the Tau Sigma Honor Society? As we return to in-person and hybrid options, we would love to see familiar faces in our Delta Kappa chapter here at NAU. We want to use our platforms as a transfer mentoring program to highlight this honor society that is specially for transfer students! Tau Sigma is a National Honor Society that started at Auburn University for transfer students in 1999. The chapter at NAU started in 2013 so we are coming up on our 10-year anniversary!
Our mission is to “recognize and promote the academic excellence and involvement of transfer students.” This also includes transfer students at all of NAU’s campuses, including online students.
We are excited to host our induction ceremony coming up in April! We are looking forward to honoring our new members! Due to previous years being completely virtual, we do not have many photos of our past inductions and events. As we rebuild the chapter, we would love to incorporate new members into our society. This year we also plan to complete the process to become a student organization again!
We ran into a experience of NAU students not knowing about Tau Sigma and wishing to be invited again. The email invite will come from Transfer & Online Connections this year from the TOC@nau.edu email so please check your emails around February 17, 2023! Speaking of which, here are the membership requirements:
There is one time membership due of $50 to be a lifetime member of Tau Sigma! This allows us to put more efforts towards scholarships and events. NAU’s chapter specifically does a book scholarship! Previously we have awarded $600.00 worth of book reimbursements to our members! Of course, we wish to increase our scholarships through fundraisers and more events. We hope to partner with other NAU student clubs and organizations as well.
Tau Sigma does participate in quite a few of our very own Transfer Jacks events too! Tau Sigma is sponsoring goodie bags for the upcoming Palentine’s Paint Night for example. We appreciate having the ability to contribute in any way we can! Currently, we are discussing possible fundraiser ideas so keep an eye out for an announcement!
Many of our own mentors met up this semester to reignite Tau Sigma! We would like to introduce to you our executive board!
Here are the members on our executive board made of our current mentors! (From top left to right) Tiffany Kim (historian), Leah Minero (treasurer), Lily Skinner (secretary), (bottom left to right) Jennifer Wadley (vice president) and Jeanine Horio (president)!
Although many of us are graduating, we would still love to see Tau Sigma grow and flourish into a successful student organization. We will still try to represent Tau Sigma as best as we can! Having an honor society dedicated to transfer students is truly a privilege. Of course, we cannot go on without the participation and support of incoming transfer students at the Flagstaff Mountain campus, statewide campuses, and online. Please consider joining our chapter!
