Kathlyne Kerns is a criminal justice major with a minor in laws, rights and justice. She is a junior and started at NAU in January of 2020 when she transferred from Estrella Mountain Community College. She will be graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree in December of 2021.
Her favorite accomplishment at NAU was when she went to my first school event.
“It was a laser tag event, and anyone could attend. I was so nervous about going because I didn’t know anyone there except my mentor. I almost didn’t go, but I decided to anyway. I ended up making some friends and had lots of fun. I went to more events as the semester went by.”
She wanted to become a mentor because she wanted to be able to help incoming transfer students make that transition to the university and to help them feel welcomed on campus.
“One piece of advice I would give to new transfer students would be to keep calm when school is starting. I remember first moving onto campus and being super nervous about it and the first day of school. But my roommates were very friendly and made me feel welcomed. They even helped me find my way around campus and find where all my classes were, making the first day of school less scary.”
Some of her favorite hobbies would be reading, drawing, painting my nails and playing musical instruments.
Fun fact: Kathlyne can play 8 instruments and she is still learning more.
