We’ve made it Lumberjacks!
After a grueling 8 weeks of frigid weather and last second studying in Cline, we’ve made it halfway through the Spring 2024 semester! Some well deserved warm weather as well as rest and relaxation is on the horizon with spring break! From March 11th-15th there will be no classes held. Use this time to really treat yourself and recharge for the final 8 weeks of the semester since once we return from break the push for finals and graduation begins! This article has some tips and tricks for enjoying but also staying safe during the break.
Itineraries are a Transfer’s Best Friend
Regardless of whether your trip is just a visit back home, flying cross country to sunny Florida, or somewhere in between, having a solid plan is always a good idea. This is especially true if your plans include people other than yourself. Keeping track of others in crowded areas during travel can add another layer of worry. Write or type out any flights, car rides, reservations, and other time sensitive activities that impact your trip as a whole. Share this list with whomever may need it to potentially help ease some anxiety. These types of lists can also make decision making once at your destination much easier. Having an idea of what will happen on which day creates one less unknown. Your itinerary can be a physical list if writing helps you remember better, or a typed document for ease of sharing. We highly recommend the Google suite for creating lists, spreadsheets, and forms to coordinate larger groups.
Start Packing Early!
There is not much worse than throwing random items in your suitcase 20 minutes before a flight. Make sure if your plans require luggage of any kind you are proactive in your packing! The more time you give yourself to pack the less chance you will forget something vital. Lists can also aid you in this step, as organizing your thoughts can help make the daunting task of packing more manageable. Keep your destination and activities in mind while packing as well, will you need a swimsuit? Sunscreen? Athletic shoes? The less money you have to spend on last minute items at your destination, the better.
Essentials and Safety
If your destination is taking you far from home make sure you bring all necessary documents! Whether that be your ID or a passport, determine ahead of time what your travel plans require. Things like cash can also be helpful to keep on your person based on the destination of your plans. Another helpful tip is to keep the phone numbers of those on the trip with you, family, and your hotel for emergencies. As a rule of thumb don’t travel alone if you do not have to, especially in new areas. Use the buddy system, particularly in bigger groups.
In settings such as spring break it can be easy to get caught up in the excitement and energy, be sure to celebrate responsibly and safely! Do not accept drinks from strangers and keep track of how much you’ve had before it becomes difficult. If you are planning on drinking, have your way home determined beforehand. Choose your designated driver, walk, or utilize ride share services. When it comes to drinking or other inebriating substances make sure to still make logical decisions despite it being spring break. This week is about enjoying your time but also taking care of yourself!
