Amit Kumar was recently awarded the 2020 Elizabeth & Sidney Licht Award from the American Congress of Rehabilitation Medicine (ACRM) Awards Committee and the Archives editorial board.
Kumar is an assistant professor in the Department of Physical Therapy and the Center for Health Equity Research. The award was for his publication titled “Use of Hospital-Based Rehabilitation Services and Hospital Readmission Following Ischemic Stroke in the United States” published in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.
“I wanted to take a moment to extend my most sincere thanks to ACRM for choosing our paper for the 2020 ACRM Elizabeth and Sidney Licht Award,” Kumar said. “I would also extend heartfelt gratitude to my coauthors and funding agencies (CoHSTAR and NCMRR) for supporting this study. This will encourage other early career researchers to conduct health service and policy research in the field of rehabilitation.”
Dr. Kumar is a clinical research scientist with expertise in health services and policy research. Dr. Kumar teaches a class on Clinical Epidemiology and Population Health to graduate students at Northern Arizona University. He is also adjunct faculty at Brown University School of Public Health. Dr. Kumar’s studies health care disparities, with emphasis on quality of care in the post-acute settings and effects of social determinants of health on patient outcomes in older adults.
The ACRM Awards Committee will present the award to Kumar at the ACRM 2020 Annual Conference in Atlanta in October.
