IHD recently published its first Bridge Brief of 2024, titled “Supporting Inclusive Practices in Colleges: Empowering Students with Intellectual Disabilities to Succeed.”
This Bridge Brief focuses on IHD’s Supporting Inclusive Practices in Colleges (SIP-C) program, which supports individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities as they pursue their educational and employment goals after high school. The brief describes some of key features of the program, including the educational coaches who guide students through every phase of the transition process as well as the peer mentors who help program participants socialize and thrive in the college environment.
Since its launch in 2020, SIP-C can point to many successes. Two of these success stories are detailed in the Bridge Brief. The brief also provides information about the inclusive postsecondary transition workbook that program staff have developed, translating IHD’s experience into a framework that can be replicated in schools throughout the country.
