IHD’s Annual
Not Inspiration Pørn
Disability Film Festival
Each year IHD hosts a Film Festival highlighting local, regional, and national films that highlight the disability experience on a variety of levels. The festival is free and open and to all.
The date and location have not been determined for 2025 but recent festivals have been scheduled during October when NAU recognizes Disability Pride and Heritage Month. Check back here for more information about the 2025 festival.
What is inspiration porn?
Stella Young, an Australian disability activist, coined the term ‘inspiration porn’ to refer to the stigma and messaging that people with disabilities are objects of inspiration.
The word porn is used deliberately to indicate the “objectification of disabled people for the benefit of non-disabled people.”
We will be showcasing several award-winning short films highlighting the disability experience including the world premiere of two locally-produced films.
Panel discussion with Q & A will follow the films.
This festival is made possible thanks to funding from the Vital Projects Fund Inc.
