IHD’s Assistive Technology for Employment and Independence (ATEI) program provides assistive technology services to help Arizona’s vocational rehabilitation clients achieve their employment and independent living goals. After conducting two trial phases over the past year as well as hosting information and training sessions for vocational rehabilitation (VR) counselors, support staff, and assistive technology (AT) vendors, ATEI has now fully assumed responsibility for providing AT equipment and services to VR clients across the state!
Established in 2022, ATEI is funded through a four-year, $5M contract with the Arizona Economic Security and Rehabilitation Services Administration (RSA). Some of ATEI’s comprehensive AT services include:
- comprehensive assessments;
- client AT device training;
- product installation services;
- technical assistance; and
- client-specific AT and bulk product purchases.
In January 2024 alone, ATEI received 53 referrals, performed over 360 hours of evaluation services, and provided clients with 125+ pieces of AT equipment valued at over $35,000.
Most importantly, VR clients are receiving the AT support they need. In recent surveys, clients have stated: “I feel more confident in my ability to reach my fullest potential” and “I appreciate the difference it makes in my quality of life. I no longer have as much anxiety about living away from home some day.”
