Lumberjack Writing Center

The Lumberjack Writing Center is a valuable campus resource, fostering creativity and providing student support.

NAU's Lumberjack Writing Center supports students at all stages of the writing process, serving all Lumberjacks regardless of academic program or writing experience. Our services include individual tutoring, online reviews, drop-in writing support, workshops, and more. We are proud to help students develop strong writing and communication skills.

Services and resources

Set up a writing session

Meet in-person and work collaboratively with our trained writing assistants, who will help you interpret assignments, generate ideas and outlines, conduct research, implement revisions, and more. These 50-minute sessions will help you bring your unique perspective, background, and experience to your writing.

Drop-In Hours

If you have a simple question or want to work on your essay with help nearby, consider Drop-In Hours! You do not need to set up an appointment to attend. To attend in person, come to the Lumberjack Writing Center at Cline Library. If you want to join our online Drop-In Hours sessions, email us at writingcenter@nau.edu for a Zoom meeting link.

Drop-In Hours are primarily available during Fall and Spring semesters. Summer and Winter Drop-In Hours are limited.

Review-and-Return services

Our Review-and-Return services allow you to submit your assignment online and request specific feedback. Your writing assistant will review your work and return it with feedback within 48 hours. There are 10 slots available each week, so be sure to submit your work early!

Workshops

The Lumberjack Writing Center offers workshops covering a variety of skills and writing topics, such as:

  • Writing processes
  • Research and integrating resources into essays
  • APA, MLA, Chicago, etc. standards and formatting
  • Sentence and paragraph structure
  • Peer review sessions
  • Resumes, cover letters, CVs

Hours and locations

The Lumberjack Writing Center's main location is at the Cline Library. Students can also schedule appointments across campus and online.

Online meetings

To schedule an online appointment, use the WCOnline platform. Online meetings can be scheduled Mondays through Fridays between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. Our writing assistants look forward to working with you!
