Academic Success Centers
The Academic Success Centers offer in-person and online coaching and tutoring for students at every step of their academic journey.
Our Academic Success Centers provide free academic support services for our students, including tutoring, academic coaching, supplemental instruction, test preparation, and more.
Tutoring
The Academic Success Centers offers free, one-on-one tutoring and support for over 100 courses across campus year-round (our summer and winter tutoring sessions are held for select courses on a request basis). Our tutoring services are available in-person and online. Students can schedule up to two 45-minute appointments per class each week. Slots fill up quickly, so be sure to fill out a request and sign up soon! If you have any questions, email tutoring@nau.edu.
Supplemental Instruction
Supplemental Instruction (SI) is a series of peer-facilitated weekly review sessions for students taking challenging courses, such as accountancy, biology, chemistry, and physics. SI Leaders are current students who have previously taken the course, performed well, and want to help others succeed. On average, students who receive supplemental instruction regularly earn higher scores than students who don't. Email SIOffice@nau.edu for more information.
Math Achievement Program
The Math Achievement Program (MAP) provides students with a peer tutor specializing in math and statistics courses. You don't need an appointment to attend, and you can drop-in throughout the week:
- Monday-Thursday: 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.
- Friday: 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.
For additional support with mathematics tutoring, visit the Lumberjacks Mathematics Center.
Peer Academic Coaching
Peer Academic Coaches are current NAU students who work one-on-one with students across campus. They help you develop practical learning strategies and skills for in and out of the classroom. Peer academic coaches can also support you with:
- Time management
- Transitioning to NAU
- Learning Canvas platform and various online systems
- Test-taking
- Academic confidence
- Reading and writing skills
- Connection to campus living, clubs, and other helpful resources
