A student job can do more than help pay for college. It can help you build transferable skills, gain professional experience, expand your network, and explore career interests before graduation.

Types of student employment
On-campus student wage (SW) positions
On-campus student wage positions are hourly, part-time jobs offered by departments across the university. More than 3,000 NAU students work on campus each year in roles that support university operations while helping them gain valuable workplace experience.
Students may generally work up to 30 hours per week during the academic year and up to 40 hours per week during university breaks and the summer. Hour limits may vary for students who are minors or international students based on visa requirements.
Don't let Work-Study preferences stop you
Some on-campus job postings list Federal Work-Study as a preferred qualification. If you are not eligible for Work-Study, you should still apply unless the position specifically requires it. Many departments consider all qualified applicants.
Federal Work-Study Positions
Federal Work-Study is a need-based financial aid program that provides eligible students with part-time employment opportunities.
Work-Study positions may be located on campus or with approved community partners. Eligibility is determined through the FAFSA and awarded by the Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid.

Off-Campus part-time jobs
Many local employers hire NAU students for flexible part-time positions throughout the year.
Working in the Flagstaff community can help you gain experience related to your interests or career goals while building professional skills and earning income during college.

Didn't get an interview?
Not being selected for an interview doesn't always mean you weren't qualified.
Employers often receive many applications from candidates who meet the minimum qualifications. After confirming basic eligibility, hiring managers look for experiences, skills, and application materials that best match the needs of the position.
You can improve your chances by tailoring your resume and application to each job you apply for instead of submitting the same materials every time.
