Giving to Special Collections and Archives
Gifts of archival materials
Most archival materials found at the Cline Library are gifts to Northern Arizona University from people who share an appreciation for the value of regional historical materials and an interest in their preservation and public access. All gift materials, whether one item or a thousand, contribute to our understanding of the Colorado Plateau or the history of the University across a multitude of disciplines.
Cline Library always appreciates information about personal, business or organizational records which relate to the Colorado Plateau or Northern Arizona University and which may be acquired through a gift or bequest. A policy outlining the scope of the collections is available upon request.
Please be aware that donations of archival materials involve both a transfer of physical ownership and any associated copyright or literary rights. See the Special Collections and SCA Deed of Gift 2017 Special Collections and Archives staff are also happy to discuss a gift of digital archival material which meets the technical specifications necessary to ensure long-term preservation and access. The library is unable to provide complimentary copies of materials in return for a donation, so donors are encouraged to obtain copies for family members prior to execution of a gift.
Gifts to support Special Collections
Cline Library welcomes outright gifts to support and advance the work of the Special Collections and Archives (SCA) department through support for processing and acquiring new materials. We recommend gifts to the SCA Fund in support of this focus.
SCA Fund (# 2511)
This fund helps the Cline Library build and enhance access to the collections in the library’s Special Collections and Archives. SCA funds are used to support the department’s goal of balancing access with long-term preservation of unique, rare, and fragile primary source materials.
Miriam B. Lemont Fund (#7018)
This fund provides support for a variety of programs within Special Collections and Archives. Gifts support the acquisition of collections, access to collections, internships, spaces, and endowed positions.
Platt H. Cline Endowment for the NAU Cline Library (#1022)
The primary focus of the endowment is the continued development of the collections in Special Collections and Archives. Particular attention is given to the acquisition of books, manuscripts, photographs, and other materials of importance to the interdisciplinary study of the Colorado Plateau, Arizona, and the Southwest.
