How to access permission to use images

An image downloaded from our website can be used for classroom use, student projects, personal display, or research. Formal permission is required for all other uses. Other uses include, but are not limited to, publication, broadcast, products, commercial display/exhibits, websites, etc. For complete list of permissions, see image use policy.

Credit line requirements

For items with an “NAU ” prefix in the call number (e.g., NAU.PH): NorthernArizona University, Cline Library [collection name]
For items with an “AHS” prefix in the call number (e.g., AHS.PH): Arizona Historical Society, Flagstaff [collection name]
For items with an “HCPO” prefix in the call number (e.g., HCPO.PH): The Hopi Tribe [collection name]
For items with an “NNM” prefix in the call number (e.g., NNM.PH): The Navajo Nation Museum [collection name]

Submitting requests

Submit the permission to use form.
We will send an email containing an invoice outlining reproduction and use fees*, including a link to a secure credit card payment form.
Once payment is verified, an email will be sent containing requested files, invoice marked “paid in full,” and counter-signed and dated permissions form.

Shipping

Electronic delivery and onsite pickup is free of cost. A $5.00 first class mail fee will be applied to orders within the United States. International shipment fees will vary.

Fees

Use of Special Collections materials are subject to a use fee as outlined below. The fee is charged per image or at a standard rate.

*Funds generated for reproduction and use fees are directly reinvested into the preservation and maintenance of Special Collections materials.

No fees are charged for student papers and projects, theses/dissertations, public education, or university publications. Application for permission to publish/produce is required.

Publications include books, catalogs, covers/labels for software discs, posters, calendars, products for sale, etc. Periodicals and Serials include magazines, journals, newspapers, and newsletters.
