Gifts of archival materials
Most archival materials found at the Cline Library are gifts to Northern Arizona University from people who share an appreciation for the value of regional historical materials and an interest in their preservation and public access. All gift materials, whether one item or a thousand, contribute to our understanding of the Colorado Plateau or the history of the University across a multitude of disciplines.
Cline Library always appreciates information about personal, business or organizational records which relate to the Colorado Plateau or Northern Arizona University and which may be acquired through a gift or bequest. A policy outlining the scope of the collections is available upon request.
Please be aware that donations of archival materials involve both a transfer of physical ownership and any associated copyright or literary rights (please see the SCA Deed of Gift). Special Collections and Archives staff are also happy to discuss a gift of digital archival material which meets the technical specifications necessary to ensure long-term preservation and access. The library is unable to provide complimentary copies of materials in return for a donation, so donors are encouraged to obtain copies for family members prior to execution of a gift.
Gifts to support Special Collections
Gifts to Special Collections and Archives support and advance the work of acquiring, organizing, describing, preserving, and making available new and current collections that enhance the department’s efforts to document the human and natural history of the Colorado Plateau and Northern Arizona University. The following giving priorities provide singular experiential learning experiences and provide for exceptional support of the department’s purpose to preserve and make accessible the history of the university and region.
Giving Priorities
SCA Fund (# 2511) Accordion Closed
This fund helps the Cline Library build and enhance access to the collections in the library’s Special Collections and Archives. SCA funds are used to support the department’s goal of balancing access with long-term preservation of unique, rare, and fragile primary source materials.
Dorothy T. and James J. Hanks Cline Library Endowment Accordion Closed
Supports an NAU student selected to be a Cline Library Hanks Scholar. Through this internship experience, students locate and document camera stations using repeat photography practices and photographs held by Special Collections and Archives.
We recommend gifts to the Dorothy T. and James J. Hanks Cline Library Endowment (1523) in support of this opportunity.
Elizabeth M. and P.T. Reilly Endowment Accordion Closed
Supports a paid summer internship opportunity to a graduate student or exceptional undergraduate student engaged in the pursuit of an archival administration, information management, or cultural heritage career. The internship focuses on the design, development, and fabrication a virtual and physical exhibit in Special Collections and Archives.
We recommend gifts to the Elizabeth M. and P.T. Reilly Endowment (1371) in support of this opportunity.
Historic Route 66 Association of Arizona Endowment Accordion Closed
SCA serves as the repository for the most significant Route 66 historical collections in the state of Arizona. The endowment provides support to preserve, make accessible, and provide programming related to the compelling history of Route 66 in Arizona.
We recommend gifts to the Historic Route 66 Association of Arizona Endowment (1894) in support of this opportunity.
Peter Huntoon Endowment Accordion Closed
Provides support for all of the activities of Special Collections and Archives, including preservation, digitization, access to resources, exhibits, internships, technology, engagement, and more.
We recommend gifts to the Peter Huntoon Endowment (1834) in support of this opportunity.
