The NAU Physical Therapy clinic – serving our campus and the community
Thank you for your interest in the NAU Physical Therapy Clinic. This service for the NAU and greater Flagstaff community exists as a clinical education experience for our doctoral physical therapy students.
Physical therapy provided by this service is intended to focus on patients with musculoskeletal complaints ( strains, sprains, aches and pains).
All physical therapy evaluation and treatment is provided by doctoral student physical therapists under the direct supervision of licensed physical therapists.

Update on COVID-19 (Coronavirus) and the Northern Arizona University Physical Therapy Clinic Accordion Closed
We are open and currently booking appointments for the fall semester. In order to keep our community safe, we are taking appropriate measures as outlined by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for the protection of our patients, students, faculty and staff. In addition to scrupulous sanitizing and low density space utilization, we are implementing the following health and safety policies until further notice:
- All participants in clinic must wear a mask while on campus and for the entire duration of the session.
- Patients will be asked to meet our students or staff in the main parking lot of the Health Professions Building, (#66) to complete a COVID-19 symptom questionnaire and receive a temperature scan prior to entering the building for each visit.
- Family members, friends, or caregivers accompanying patients will be asked to remain outside the building
- Frequent use of hand sanitizer by patients and providers will be encouraged throughout the sessions.
- Patients must stay home if experiencing any mild illness and notify our clinic.
- Patients should contact their primary healthcare provider or go to the hospital if experiencing severe symptoms (flu-like symptoms with high fever, cough. or shortness of breath).
Location Accordion Closed
The NAU Physical Therapy Clinic is located on the Flagstaff South Campus in the Health and Human Services Building # 66, Room 129.
Eligibility Accordion Closed
Three physical therapy visits are provided pro bono to those who are uninsured, underinsured or otherwise financially challenged in their access to physical therapy. Donations are gratefully accepted.
Responsibility Accordion Closed
Health care is valuable. We are able to serve a limited volume of those who truly need physical therapy on a pro bono basis. When you reserve your three appointments, please intend to keep them.
Please notify PT Staff Michelle Cook immediately if a conflict arises so another patient may be offered your appointment time. She can be reached at nauptclinic@nau.edu or 928-523-4092.
Expectations Accordion Closed
For all three appointments, patients should dress in loose fitting clothing that allows free movement.
Visit #1 -A student/clinician team will conduct a medical history interview, followed by a physical examination pertinent to the presenting musculoskeletal complaint/symptoms. Examination findings are evaluated and explained. Treatment options to address the complaint are discussed, agreed upon and then carried out. Two follow up visits are necessary to provide treatment, assess response to treatment and co-create an effective self-care plan.
The emphasis of this clinical education experience is for our doctoral student physical therapists to master the fundamentals of musculoskeletal therapeutics. Accordingly the treatment offered is likely to include, but not be limited to, manual therapy interventions, health education and therapeutic exercises.
Parking Accordion Closed
On campus patients: Patients affiliated with NAU should park according to their permit holder designation. If walking from the designated parking lot presents a hardship, make this known at the time the appointment is made.
Off campus patients: Upon making an appointment for physical therapy, patients will be issued a parking code. This code may be used at PARKING KIOSKS to obtain a free pass, valid only for the day. Patient parking areas are clearly designated in the parking lot behind the College of Health & Human Services, Building 66.
