Application Process

Applying to student teach for Professional Education Programs

Congratulations!

Congratulations on your eligibility to apply for your student teaching experience!  You are on your way to fulfilling your goals of becoming a teacher.  Below are the steps to apply for your student teaching experience.

Student teaching application steps

Step 1: Complete prerequisites Accordion Closed

  • Ensure PEP admission is complete
  • Check Student Teaching prerequisites in NAU Catalog for PEP Majors
  • Ensure all OFFICIAL college and university transcripts have been sent to NAU

Step 2: Apply to student teach Accordion Closed

  • Check your NAU email frequently, all official correspondence will be sent to this account
    • Look for a message with “Student Teaching Eligible” subject line
    • Follow the instruction in email to initiate your application to Student Teach
  • NOTE: Before you get started, be aware that your Fingerprint Clearance Card  must be valid through the end of your student teaching experience.
  • Initiate and submit the Student Teaching online application one year prior of the anticipated Student Teaching semester
    • Required deadline for submission of application
      • Spring Student Teaching:  DEADLINE March 15th
      • Fall Student Teaching:  DEADLINE October 15th
    • Your application information is saved and can be completed later
    • Incomplete applications CANNOT be processed

Step 3: Things you can do to student teach Accordion Closed

  • Continue to complete prerequisites to Student Teach successfully
  • Check your AR report to make sure all prerequisites are recorded properly
  • Maintain a valid Fingerprint Clearance Card
  • Practice working with PK-12 students as frequently as possible

Step 4: Placement process Accordion Closed

  • Your application will be processed by PEP Administration the following semester
    • Reminder to those programs that MUST pass NES exams to meet prerequisites for student teaching
  • An emailed message will be sent notifying you that your placement process has begun.  Look for an email with subject: “Initial Clearance for Student Teaching”
  • The placement process will begin:
    • Fall Student Teaching:  February 1st
    • Spring Student Teaching:  September 1st
  • Once a placement is confirmed, you will receive an emailed message notifying you of  your placement.  Look for an email with subject: “Student Teaching Placement Confirmation”
    • Reminder that you MUST meet all prerequisites to start your student teaching placement
    • Reminder to continue checking your AR report to make sure that all prerequisites are recorded properly (all transfer transcripts have posted to your record)
  • An emailed message will be sent notifying you that you are eligible to student teach.  Look for an email with subject “Final Clearance to Student Teach”
    • This is sent AFTER your previous semester grades have posted and all prerequisites have been met and verified by your academic advisor

Step 5: Next Steps to student teach Accordion Closed
