In this EPIC seminar Gabriel Montano will share his journey to find himself and the perceived “chip on his shoulder” that his life and experiences have provided him. Living as a minority with a STEM major has taught Gabriel the key to finding the strength and potential in life. The goal is to help you be the best you can be, which starts closer to home than some might even realize.
Gabriel A. Montano is a native New Mexican born and raised in Gallup, NM. Gabriel completed his Bachelor’s of Science in Biology at New Mexico State University and proceeded to complete his PhD at Arizona State University. He then accepted a postdoctoral appointment in biomaterials design at Los Alamos National Laboratory where he was an Intelligence Community Postdoctoral Fellow. In 2005, Gabriel accepted a position as a Technical Staff Member with the newly developed Department of Energy-Center for Integrated Nanotechnologies (CINT). In 2017, Gabriel began a faculty position in the Departments of Chemistry & Biochemistry and Physics & Astronomy at Northern Arizona University and led the creation of the Center for Materials Interfaces in Research and Applications. In the spring of 2019, Dr. Montano was also selected to serve as the NAU Diversity Fellow and oversees diversity initiatives at NAU.
