Investigating Difference Scholarship 

The Investigating Difference: Human and Cultural Relations in Criminal Justice Scholarship is used to provide students with funding for educational research, and in acknowledgement of exemplary scholarly and creative projects. This fund provides travel support to students who are attending professional conferences and criminal justice related workshops.
The two types of Investigating Difference awards are:

(1) CCJ 345 Writing Competition 

This award recognizes excellence in writing and depth of understanding about cultural differences.  There are two writing competitions - one in the fall and the other in the spring.
Eligibility and Process for Applying:
  • Must be a currently enrolled student in CCJ 345W
  • Must provide a copy of a paper submitted for CCJ 345W
  • Must be a registered full time student
Please submit an electronic copy of your paper to kara.stone@nau.edu in the Department of Criminology and Criminal Justice no later than the first day of finals.

(2) Creative and Scholarly Projects Grant

This award provides financial assistance to underwrite the costs of travel and special materials needed for an independent study, undergraduate research internship, a major class project or thesis research.  Awards are based upon merit and amounts vary.
Eligibility and Process for Applying:
  • Must be a current NAU student in good academic standing
  • A CCJ undergraduate major or enrolled in the CCJ graduate program
  • Enrolled full time
  • Complete and submit the Criminal Justice "Investigating Difference" Professional Development Grant application
Please submit your request for funding, including a detailed statement of the purpose for which the funds will be used, the amount requested and an unofficial transcript to kara.stone@nau.edu in care of the Scholarship Committee.  

Criminology and Criminal Justice Scholarships 

We accept applications for our annual departmental scholarships each year from January through February. We currently have 5 different scholarships that are specific to CCJ majors. To apply, visit the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences website, and click on the name of the scholarship(s) for which you would like to apply under the Criminology & Criminal Justice section. You will also be able to view the full descriptions and eligibility criteria for each of the scholarships.

Northern Arizona University scholarships

These scholarships are offered through the Office of Student Financial Aid and/or the NAU Foundation. The application for the NAU Foundation 2014-2015 academic year scholarship will open on Monday, December 2, 2013 and close Friday, January 31, 2014. 

Arizona Justice Educators Association scholarships

The Arizona Justice Educator's Association offers two scholarships for criminal justice students. You can find deadlines and eligibility information on their website as well as the attached application.  

FBI National Academy Associates, Inc. - Arizona Chapter Community College Scholarship Program

The Arizona Chapter of the FBI National Academy Associates, Inc. is offering four $500.00 scholarships to students who are actively pursuing degree programs in a Criminal Justice or Justice Studies program.  Information about how to apply and eligibility criteria can be found in the attached application.
