Engage with your community

Students in NAU’s Sustainable Communities program focus on community engagement and work with community organizations in Northern Arizona.

Our community partners include:

  • City of Flagstaff Sustainability Division
    • One of our program’s CUPI research pods has been partnering with the Sustainability Division on the city’s Carbon Neutrality Plan, with a focus on re-envisioning sustainable transportation alternatives.
  • Flagstaff Foodlink
    • Flagstaff Foodlink cultivates and celebrates local, healthy, equitable and resilient food systems by offering educational, organizational and fundraising tools to the emergent local food movement in the greater Flagstaff community.
  • Grand Canyon Trust
    • The mission of the Grand Canyon Trust is to protect and restore the canyon country of the Colorado Plateau. Its vision for this unique region 100 years from now is of a landscape still characterized by vast open spaces and dominated by wildness and healthy and restored natural ecosystems.
  • Northern Arizona Interfaith Council
    • The NAIC builds leadership for civic participation across lines of race, class, age, and religion and organize for issues that advance the common good.
  • St. Mary’s Food Bank
    • Our CUPI program partners with St. Mary’s Food Bank–the oldest in the nation–in conducting field research aimed at improving food bank services in multiple rural communities throughout northern Arizona.
  • Willow Bend Environmental Education Center
    • Willow Bend offers place-based educational opportunities to Flagstaff children, families, and educators.
  • Program in Community Culture and Environment
    • This NAU program provides opportunities for students, citizens, and community and cultural organizations on the southern Colorado Plateau to work together in:

      • other sponsored activities
  • Stuck Community Acupuncture
    • Stuck is a nonprofit organization committed to providing accessible integrative healthcare options to Northern Arizona residents. Stuck believes that healthcare is a right and everyone in our community deserves access to choices in their care.
