Inspired by a family member’s struggle with cancer, NAU–Yuma student Yasmine Castro Felix made it her mission to stand on the front line of medicine.
Where others may falter when faced with enormous challenges, Yasmine Castro Felix turned adversity into determination. A breast cancer diagnosis for her aunt spurred Castro Felix into the Department of Nursing at NAU–Yuma. There she pursued a degree that would allow her to make a difference for patients like her aunt. Along the way, Castro Felix seized every opportunity to connect with and support her community. From serving food at a local elementary school to administering COVID-19 vaccinations among agricultural workers, her tireless spirit of service helped her discover that healthcare is as much an art as it is a science.
