Join professor Elizabeth Shermer (Department of History, Loyola University, Chicago) for a discussion of Student Debt in America. Americans owe more than $1.7 trillion dollars in student debt. A lot of reporters, politicians, and everyday people assume the student debt crisis is recent. But affording college has always been hard and politicians, including some of Arizona’s most famous, chose to invest in a student loan program that guaranteed bankers repayment. That government program spawned a powerful student-loan industry that has been hard to regulate and reform. The result? Millions of Americans drowning in debt
