Keynote Address
Bernadette Mazurek Melnyk, PhD, APRN-CNP, EBP-C, FAANP, FNAP, FAAN, The Ohio State University
Dr. Bernadette Melnyk is Vice President for Health Promotion and Chief Wellness Officer at The Ohio State University where she also is the Helene Fuld Health Trust Professor of Evidence-based Practice in the College of Nursing and Professor of Pediatrics and Psychiatry in the College of Medicine. She is also founder of the Helene Fuld Health Trust National Institute for Evidence-based Practice in Nursing and Healthcare. Dr. Melnyk is recognized globally for her expertise in evidence-based practice (EBP), child and adolescent mental health, clinician well-being, and intervention research as well as her innovative approaches to population health and well-being. Bern is a frequent keynote speaker at national and international conferences, and has presented hundreds of workshops on EBP, mental health, health and wellness throughout the nation and globe. She is editor of 7 books focused on child and adolescent mental health, EBP, intervention research, evidence-based health assessment, and leadership, innovation and entrepreneurship.
Dr. Melnyk has more than 540 publications and over $36 million dollars of sponsored funding from NIH, AHRQ and foundations as a principal investigator. She is an elected fellow of the National Academy of Medicine, the American Academy of Nursing that has recognized her three times as an Edge Runner (twice for her evidence-based COPE programs), the National Academies of Practice, and the American Association of Nurse Practitioners. Dr. Melnyk served a four-year term on the United States Preventive Services Task Force, the National Advisory Council for the National Institute for Nursing Research, and the Behavioral Health Standing Committee of the National Quality Forum. She also served as vice-chair of the National Forum for Heart Disease and Stroke Prevention and recently received an honorary doctor of science degree from the State University of New York. Dr. Melnyk is editor-in-chief of the top ranked journal Worldviews on Evidence-based Nursing. She was appointed to the National Academy of Medicine’s Action Collaborative on Clinician Well-being and Resilience in 2017 on which she still continues to serve and is the founder and current president of the National Consortium for Building Healthy Academic Communities.
She received her bachelor of science in nursing from West Virginia University, her master of science in nursing degree and pediatric nurse practitioner education from the University of Pittsburgh, and her PhD in clinical research and psychiatric nurse practitioner education from the University of Rochester.

Oaklee Rogers, PhD, OTR/L, Northern Arizona University
Dr. Oaklee Rogers is the Associate Dean for the College of Health and Human Services at Northern Arizona University (NAU). Previously, she was the Department Chair for the NAU’s Occupational Therapy (OT) Program from 2017-2022 and was the Academic Fieldwork Coordinator from 2014-2017. Dr. Rogers has designed and taught numerous education, leadership, mental health, and scholarship courses. Throughout her career, Dr. Rogers has successfully published in peer-reviewed journals, obtained over 3.5 million dollars in grant funding, and presented at state, national, and international conferences.
Being a servant leader, Dr. Rogers has served in various leadership roles at the local, state, and national levels. She currently serves as the Arizona Representative to the Representative Assembly for the American Occupational Therapy Association. Due to her service in the occupational therapy field, the Arizona Occupational Therapy Association awarded her the Outstanding Occupational Therapist of the Year. Her professional experience includes working in various settings across the lifespan. She currently provides services to individuals with a substance use disorder at residential and outpatient treatment facilities.
Kate Gawlik, DNP, APRN-CNP, FAANP, FAAN, FNAP, The Ohio State University
Kate Gawlik, DNP, APRN-CNP, FAANP, FNAP, FAAN, is an Associate Professor of Clinical Nursing, Director of Undergraduate Health and Wellness Academic Programming, and the Director of the Bachelor of Science in Health and Wellness program at The Ohio State University. She is board certified as a Family Nurse Practitioner and her areas of expertise are in wellness, cardiovascular disease prevention, parental burnout, and nursing education. She is also the co-editor for four nursing textbooks, including Evidence-Based Physical Examination: Best Practices for Health & Wellbeing Assessment. She is a fellow of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners, National Academies of Practice, and the American Academy of Nursing. She is the current chair elect for nursing at the National Academies of Practice.
She pioneered an online educational program, the Million Hearts Fellowship, for healthcare professionals that has resulted in the cardiovascular screening and education of over 100,000 people nationwide and has been embedded into nursing curricula across the U.S. This work has received four national awards, including most recently, the 2022 AACN’s Innovation Award. Her most recent work in wellness involved developing a new scale, the very first instrument on the globe to measure working parent burnout. Dr.Gawlik lives in Bexley, Ohio with her loving husband, Jason, and four children, Hadley, Tyler, Hunter, and Austin.
Griselda Escalon, RN, BSN, MSN, FNP-C, DNP student at Ohio State University
Griselda Escalon, RN, BSN, MSN, FNP-C, DNP student, is a Family Nurse Practitioner in Pediatrics. She works in a Federally Qualified Health Center, Su Clinica in Brownsville, Texas. The age groups are newborn to 19 years old. Population includes refugees coming from different countries and uninsured patients from our community. As an advanced practice provider Griselda is assisting in closing the gaps seen in a medically underserved area where access to healthcare is challenging. Growing up in a farm working family taught her valuable life lessons. Those life lessons have helped her better understand her community.
Griselda has worked at Su Clinica since 2015, the same facility that she was born in. She wants to keep growing and learning about her community and how to better serve them. She graduated with her BSN in 2010 from the University of Texas at El Paso. Then pursued her MSN at Texas Tech and graduated in 2015. Currently, Gris is working on her DNP at Ohio State University and is expected to graduate in Spring 2024. She has a great interest in healthcare provider burnout, shortage and turnover. Outside of work, she loves to spend time with her 2 girls, go to the beach and exercise.
Erin Dimas, Occupational Therapy Doctoral candidate (3rd year), Northern Arizona University
Erin Dimas, currently a third-year student in the Occupational Therapy Doctorate program at Northern Arizona University, brings a wealth of knowledge and passion to the field of holistic well-being. With an undergraduate degree in Exercise Science and minors in Psychology and Disability Studies, her commitment to comprehensive health is evident in her academic pursuits. Currently immersed in a capstone project, Erin dedicates her efforts to enhancing graduate student wellness, showcasing dedication to the overall well-being of her peers. Professionally, her capstone focuses on reducing stress and burnout, providing interventions such as mindfulness practices, deep breathing exercises, yoga, and meditation. These targeted interventions aim to empower graduate students with practical tools for integrating self-care into their daily lives, promoting mental resilience and fostering a healthier academic experience.

Dr. Cindy Beckett is the Assistant Director of the Academic Core and the Director of the Evidence-based Practice Certification/Certificate Programs for the Helene Fuld Health Trust National Institute for Evidence–based Practice in Nursing & Healthcare, and an Assistant Clinical Professor at The Ohio State University College of Nursing teaching EBP at the masters and doctoral levels. She is working to integrate EBP into the academic curriculum across all levels (RN-BSN, BSN, MSN, and DNP), and is directing efforts at the Fuld to implement and oversee an interprofessional certification in Evidence-Based Practice.
Dr. Beckett has been a nurse for over 40 years working in various leadership, academic, and research roles. Her research focus has involved perinatal, pediatrics, and family; rural and underserved communities and populations using quantitative, qualitative, and evidence-based practice methodologies. Dr. Beckett has been mentoring, teaching, and leading Evidence-based Practice in clinical and academic settings for over 17 years.
