Robinson to receive NAU’s spring 2022 Gold Axe Award
Bethany Robinson, a senior year biology undergraduate student in the Northern Arizona University Honors College, will receive NAU’s spring 2022 Gold Axe Award in a ceremony on April 12 at the High Country Conference Center.
Ricky Camplain, assistant professor in NAU’s Department of Health Sciences and Center for Health Equity Research is Robinson’s advisor, along with Heather Williamson, assistant professor for the Department of Occupational Therapy and CHER. Camplain nominated Robinson for the award.
“I am not sure how to put into words the incredible leadership, involvement, commitment, and service Bethany has provided to our NAU community,” Camplain said. “Bethany has proven to be an indispensable member of my research team and wish I could keep her on a little longer. I am so excited for Bethany’s bright future and there is no doubt in my mind that she will succeed at everything she puts her mind to.”
In fall 2022, Robinson will be attending the Arizona College of Pediatric Medicine at Midwestern University in Glendale, Arizona. Last year, she received the Hooper Undergraduate Research Award (HURA)—a grant which funded her own research project on the impact of disability on women’s access to physical activity while incarcerated.
Robinson was also the sole awardee of the NAU Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Inquiry. She works on projects for both CHER and the Southwest Health Equity Research Collaborative (SHERC).
Robinson is from Phoenix and attended Boulder Creek High School in Anthem. She presented her work with the county at the National Conferences on Undergraduate Research as well as the NAU Undergraduate Research Symposium.
