As part of the week-long Dia de los Muertos celebrations at NAU this year, CCS Assistant Professor of Humanities Dr. Anabel Galindo and Future Faculty Fellow of Human Rights Dr. Pedro Gonzalez Corona held flower-making workshops at the Cline Library. In an interview with The Lumberjack, Dr. Galindo said, “It’s part of learning and building community within NAU…. Some students don’t know each other when they come in, but now they’re talking with each other and getting to know one another.” The hands-on event was paired with Dr. Gonzalez Corona discussing the significance of ofrendas, the altars and offerings to deceased loved ones, as well as treats such as Mexican sweet breads. As Dr. Gonzalez Corona notes: “This is a time to remember and to be in touch with those lessons that our loved ones have left behind for us.” Click here to read the full article by The Lumberjack about the event!
