A professor of bilingual multicultural education at NAU, Dr. Jon Reyhner, MEd Educational Administration, ’73, EdD Secondary Education, ’77, has dedicated his career to American Indian education and indigenous language revitalization. In addition to his career in the classroom, he has authored and edited several works on his favorite topic, including Teaching Indigenous Students: Honoring Place, Community, and Culture.

A published author in many genres, Jeffrey Roberts, BS Journalism, ’73, MA History, ’74, currently has three novels available on Amazon: the Mars thriller The Healer, the alternative history time travel romance Cherries in Winter, and the eerie spiritual urban fantasy In the Shadow of the House of God.
Caroline Miller ’71
Caroline Miller, MA Arts and Sciences, ’71, sold two short stories. Gustav Pavel, a magical realism piece adapted from Henry James’s The Jolly Corner, appears in an e-pub version on the website Fixional. Secrets, a traditional story about a woman returning to England to tell her former lover that he has a son, was accepted by Adelaide Literary Magazine, Issue No. 9.
Louis Roy ’71
Louis Roy, BS Social & Behavioral Sciences, ’71, retired as a General Industry Compliance Trainer from the Kennedy Space Center NASA. Louis then switched over to work for Nova Southeastern University: Institute for Disaster Preparedness.
Tom DeSpain ’70
Tom DeSpain, BS Forestry, ’70, is retiring after 46 years with the U.S. Forest Service. The outcomes in his area of expertise, tree genetics and improving forest health, can be seen in national forests in Idaho and Washington, where he has played an important role in reforestation efforts. DeSpain plans on continuing his participation in the Boy Scouts, his church, and his community, and enjoying time with his seven grandchildren.
Mike Jankowski ’98
Mike Jankowski, BS Ecosystem Science and Management, ’98, known by many as “Coach Janks,” is the head coach for the US snowboard and free skiing teams. He’s coached some of the biggest names in snowboarding, including three-time gold medalist Shaun White and teen sensation Chloe Kim, and his athletes have won more than two dozen medals at four Olympic Games.
