Applying
NAU’s online application process is quick and easy and will walk you through the entire process.
NAU offers admission for most programs on a rolling basis, so you can apply at basically any time.
- Undergraduate applications for the following academic year open in July. (For example, students applying for the fall 2024 semester could submit their application starting July 2023.)

When you apply to NAU, you’ll receive a confirmation email providing a user ID that will allow you to check your admissions status.

Our Access2Excellence (A2E) program guarantees tuition coverage for every undergraduate Arizona resident with a household income up to $65,000, and for all eligible members of Arizona’s 22 recognized Tribes, regardless of income.

Our Net Price Calculator gives you an accurate and personalized estimate of the cost of attending NAU and what scholarships you might be eligible for.
97% of NAU students receive some sort of scholarship or financial aid.

Access2Excellence
A2E guarantees tuition coverage for every undergraduate Arizona resident with a household income up to $65,000, and for all eligible members of Arizona’s 22 recognized Tribes, regardless of income.
The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is the first and most important step in determining your eligibility for financial aid in college. The FAFSA opens in late fall each year for the following academic year. Be sure to use NAU school code 001082 when filling out your FAFSA.
Undocumented students who are ineligible to complete the FAFSA can complete the CSS profile using NAU school code 4006.

Campus visits
There are a wide variety of ways to visit our beautiful campuses year-round and get a feel for life as a Lumberjack, including daily campus visits, special full-day events, regional events, and much more.

Flagstaff is consistently ranked among the nation’s best college towns, and for good reason. We’ve got four beautiful seasons (including plenty of snow in winter), a thriving arts and culture scene, and more outdoor and recreational opportunities than you can imagine.
Transferring
You’ll apply to NAU as a transfer student if:
- you’ve graduated from high school, AND
- you’ve earned 12 or more transferable credits from another college or university
You’ll apply to NAU as a freshman if:
- you’ll graduate high school within one year, or
- you’ve earned fewer than 12 college credits since graduating from high school, or
- you’re dual-enrolled but have not yet graduated from high school
Other questions
Although NAU does not require freshmen to live on campus, the vast majority choose to do so, placing them at the heart of classes, dining options, resources, events, and more.
No! Freshmen students, especially those living on campus, are strongly encouraged not to bring a car to campus. Students rarely use their cars—everyone on campus walks, bikes, or takes the shuttle to get around. In fact, more than 65% of NAU students never bring a car to campus and travel easily without a car.
Absolutely. NAU’s award-winning study abroad programs allow you the chance at experiential learning in more than 70 countries, generally at the standard NAU tuition rate. You can also study at more than 200 partner institutions across the US through the National Student Exchange.

Universal Admissions is a streamlined pathway where students begin their degree at a partner community college, then seamlessly transfer to NAU when they are ready. No additional application is needed to the partner community college now, and you won’t have to re-apply to NAU when you’re ready to transfer.
