Steps post-acceptance: first year student
You’re in! Congrats! Now it’s time to secure your spot and get ready for life as a Lumberjack. This step-by-step post-acceptance checklist will help you stay on track and feel confident as you prepare for your first semester at NAU.
Welcome to NAU, Lumberjack!
You’ve been accepted! Now let’s get everything lined up so you can start your NAU journey strong. Follow these steps to officially join the Lumberjack family. If you are a first year online or statewide student, confirm and accept your offer.
1. Lock in your spot
Accept your offer and pay your enrollment fee ($325) to secure your spot. Once processed (usually within one business day), you’ll be able to apply for housing.
For students starting in the fall, enrollment fee is due May 1 and non-refundable after June 1.
For students starting in the spring, enrollment fees are due by December 1 and non-refundable after December 1.
2. Submit your FAFSA
If you haven’t already, complete your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to unlock financial aid, scholarships, and grant opportunities. Use NAU code 001082.
3. Apply for on-campus housing
Want to live in the heart of campus? After paying your enrollment fee, you are eligible to apply for housing. Housing applications for the academic year open in late fall. Room selection is prioritized by application date, apply early!
4. Don't miss out on scholarships
Explore scholarships through ScholarshipUniverse and complete your application(s) by April 15. It’s one of the best ways to reduce your college costs.
5. Complete priority enrollment and academic advising
Priority Enrollment
Your first term enrollment at NAU begins by completing a Priority Enrollment (PE) profile. PE helps you get academic advising and register early for classes. Your Academic Advisor will have access to this profile and the information you provide allows your advisor to review your test scores, make informed course recommendations, and prioritize your advising appointment.
- If you're starting in Fall 2026, you'll have access to priority enrollment beginning February 1, 2026.
- If you're starting in Spring 2027, you'll have access to priority enrollment in October 1, 2026.
Priority Enrollment will remain open for submissions up until the start of your first term. The sooner you submit your Priority Enrollment profile, the sooner an advisor will be in touch and can help you complete your enrollment.

Advising appointment
Schedule an appointment with your assigned Academic Advisor. Each incoming student is assigned an advisor based on your academic plan. Advisor appointments are available in-person and over Zoom or phone.
Why is it important to meet with your NAU Academic Advisor?
- Ensure any AP, IB, or dual-credit courses transfer correctly so you don't retake classes you already have credit for
- Finalize your schedule and ensure accurate enrollment
- Help you prepare for your first semester
- If you're undecided, advisors can help you explore majors and match your interest to a career path
How do you schedule an appointment?
Schedule your appointment using our online appointment planner. Advisors are available In-Person and over Zoom and Phone.
The University Advising front desk can also help you schedule an appointment over email universityadvising@nau.edu or phone 928-523-4772.
How do I know who to schedule an appointment with?
We recommend you meet with your assigned Academic Advisor. This person has been specially assigned to you based on your academic plan. How do you know who your advisor is?
Summer is a busy time for advisors and it is typical for them to schedule out 2-4 weeks; we thank you in advance for your patience.
