Startup Weekend 2018

Northern Arizona University-Yuma and Arizona Western College hosted a second annual “Startup Weekend” in Yuma on March 23-25 to help aspiring entrepreneurs launch their business ideas.  Startup Weekends are designed to assist persons with launching their ideas for new businesses and technologies.  These events are growing in popularity around the United States and are now held in over 100 countries.  This year’s AWC/NAU Startup Weekend attracted nearly 100 attendees from the U.S. and Mexico, many of whom came from universities in Baja California. First place was won by “Chemical Heroes”, a group working on the development of an educational game designed to teach chemistry. Their prize was a business startup package valued at over $3,000 that was contributed by Imaginary Friends Design Studios of Yuma.  Planning is underway for our third annual Startup Weekend which will take place in the spring of 2019.
