Licensure

The Value of Licensure

Social workers are likely required to apply for licensure in order to work within this profession, especially if providing direct care to clients.  Each state has its own requirements for the licensure process, however many include licensure at the associate and independent levels.  Licensure establishes requirements to demonstrate specific competencies applied to practice settings as demonstrated through graduation from a CSWE accredited program.  This requirement of licensure elevates social work as a professional practice.  For more information regarding state requirements, please visit: https://socialworklicensure.org/

An individual interested in a social work career will likely need to earn licensure in the field. Social work licenses verify the education and experience of social workers, and some states require licensure for professionals to use the social worker title.
