- have no additional employment obligation at NAU
A Graduate Assistantship is a salaried employment opportunity for graduate students. Graduate Assistants work 20 hours peer week and, in return, are paid an hourly wage and receive a tuition waiver for the Fall and Spring semesters, which covers up to 15 credit hours each semester of in-state graduate tuition. The GA position also comes with the option of a student health insurance premium. A student receiving a Graduate Assistantship is still required to pay all student and program fees. GA positions do not cover summer session tuition or program fees. Likewise, the paid employment hours are only during the academic year and can include work over the winter break.
The role of the Graduate Assistant involves unique tasks, as assigned by the Social Work Department, or by the specific faculty member working directly with the GA. The responsibilities can range form conducting research with faculty, to assisting professors with grading and teaching duties, to supporting other departmental needs.
