Octaviana Trujillo, a professor in the department of Applied Indigenous Studies, has received the Mike Charleston Award for Distinguished Contributions to Research in Indigenous Education. The award recognizes research, professional practice, and service that advance public understanding of the education of Indigenous peoples.
Dr. Trujillo (Yaqui) is founding chair and professor of the department of Applied Indigenous Studies and teaches courses on Tribal Nation Building.
