How to maintain aid eligibility at NAU

1. Grade point average (GPA)

The minimum cumulative GPA is 2.0 for undergraduate students and 3.0 for graduate students. This is calculated using NAU grades only. Students completing courses within the Personalized Learning program cannot obtain less than a ‘B’ grade for each class successfully completed.

2. Pace of progress

Students must complete 67% of their attempted courses. This includes all credit hours transferred to NAU from any institution. The pace of progress is measured by dividing credits completed by credits attempted. Personalized Learning students may also be suspended for failing to earn any credits in a single subscription.

3. Subscription pace of progress

Students must complete 67% of their attempted courses in each subscription. This does NOT include hours transferred to NAU from any institution.

4. Maximum timeframe

You must complete your degree or certificate program within 150% of the number of credit hours required for the degree program. Most undergraduate degrees require 120 credits, so students are allowed funding up to 180 credits. Credits earned from a prior degree in the same career will count toward this time frame.

You may receive aid based on full-or-half-time enrollment. SAP is evaluated at the end of each subscription. If you do not meet SAP, your future enrollment will be limited to no more than 6 credits until you meet all SAP standards or have an approved SAP appeal on file.

Satisfactory Academic Progress statuses

These definitions will help you understand your status and the necessary action you might need to take to maintain your financial aid eligibility. Log in to LOUIE to view your current SAP status.

Meets SAP: You meet all three SAP standards and are eligible to receive financial aid. You will be placed on SAP suspension if you do not meet all SAP standards by the end of the payment period and/or subscription. This applies only to GPA and pace of progress. Students not meeting the maximum timeframe standard are immediately placed on SAP suspension.

Suspension: You are ineligible to receive financial aid based on SAP evaluation but may submit an SAP appeal for reconsideration. Visit the Satisfactory Academic Progress page for details on the appeal process. Submitting an appeal is not a guarantee of approval and/or reinstatement of financial aid eligibility.

Students who complete zero (0) lessons in a subscription will be placed on SAP suspension. Suspension does not automatically withdraw you from the university. Please contact Personalized Learning at 800-426-8315 for more information.

Probation: You are on SAP probation because you have successfully appealed your suspension. You are required to meet specific probation conditions by the end of each subscription period. You will no longer be eligible for financial aid if these conditions are not met.
