Broadening access to higher education

As of fall 2023, NAU is guaranteeing full tuition and fee coverage for all members of Arizona’s 22 federally recognized tribes. This applies whether you live in Arizona or out-of-state, and your family income does not matter.

Step 1: Complete the FAFSA

The first and most important step in paying for college is to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). This ensures you receive the most possible financial aid, and many tribal organizations use your FAFSA information to consider you for other scholarships and aid.

  • Be sure to submit your FAFSA before May 1 to meet NAU’s priority deadline.
  • Use NAU school code 001082 when submitting.
  • Students must re-submit a new FAFSA each year when it opens.

Step 2: Financial Needs Analysis (FNA) form

The Financial Needs Analysis form is a key part of your tribal scholarship application and must be completed each semester or year, depending on your tribe/tribal organization. Watch the below video for details and assistance completing the form.

Submit your completed FNA to OSFA at scholarships@nau.edu.

Consent to release information

You must complete a Consent to Release FAFSA Data form, which will be found under your “To Do List” in your LOUIE student account. This allows us to release your financial information to and work directly with your tribe or tribal organization to make sure you’re receiving the most possible aid. You’ll only have to do this once as an NAU student.

Federal verification

Some students might be selected for a process called “verification” after submitting their FAFSA. If you’re selected, a notification will show up under your “To Do List” in your LOUIE student account. To learn more about the verification process, visit our verification page or give us a call at 928-523-4951. We’ll help you through it step-by-step!
