Applying for financial aid at NAU

Steps for graduate students

1. Apply for admission to NAU.

2. Complete the FAFSA. File your Free Application for Federal Student Aid using NAU school code 001082 as soon as possible. Be sure to complete it by the May 1 priority deadline to ensure the most possible aid.

Note: Undocumented students who are ineligible to complete the FAFSA can complete the CSS profile using NAU school code 4006.

To ensure a smooth and accurate process and to make sure you’re eligible for the most possible aid, be sure to:
  • Stay up to date: Check your LOUIE To Do List as well as your personal and NAU email accounts, regularly.
  • Eligibility: in addition to filling out the FAFSA and being accepted to NAU, there are certain qualifications you must meet to be eligible to receive financial aid.
  • Verification: sometimes, students and families are selected to verify information on their FAFSA for accuracy. If selected, check out verification and get in touch with us for assistance.
  • Summer and winter sessions: learn more about financial aid for summer and winter terms.

Note: If you are a first-time graduate, continuing, or returning student to NAU, a minimum of half-time enrollment (5+ hours for graduate students) is required for financial aid to be awarded. This will occur after spring grades post.

Graduate student waivers

The Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid manually awards graduate tuition/health insurance waivers based on awarding information received from NAU’s Graduate College and the student’s hiring department. Student questions regarding award amounts, timing of awards, and cancellation requests should be addressed to the NAU Graduate College.
